My First Thousand Dollar Income
I discovered the power of the internet more than 10 years ago. I just closed my software development company due to problematic projects. I have a growing family and I desperately needed an immediate income.

It was the time of the dot-com boom then. Almost every day there was a company launching its IPO (Initial Public Offering) at Nasdaq. So what I did was I registered with an online stock trading company called eTrade and made an online account.

What happened in the coming days changed my perception on the internet. Back then, you connect to the internet via dial-up. So almost every night, starting at 10pm Manila tine, I would start buying the day's latest IPO.

The offer could be $1 per share. I would be able to buy it at $1.40. By the time its midnight, the price already rose to $12. By this time people would start taking profits and I would sell my share. And I ended up selling at $10.

After only two hours, I made more than $8 a share. And I would do this almost every night for several months until the stock market bubble on the dot com mania. I earned thousands of dollars during that time enough to for me to start my new company again.

This gave me a very very solid impression that there is money to be made on the internet.





Information - The Best Product To Sell
Fast forward to 2001 and I have a online site selling goat milk soap. I wasn't that happy with the sales. I was selling one soap for $1 apiece. I was thinking I would need to go to the post office a million times just to earn a million dollars!

So I enrolled and was mentored by the late great Corey Rudl who told me that the best product to sell on the internet is information - a product that you own, has zero inventory, and it only cost once to create and sell them over and over again.

So he helped me brainstorm on a product and I thought of creating summaries of the latest business books. Hence, BusinessSummaries.com was born.

But the road to that success was long and difficult. Why? For several reasons:

    I have no other Philippine internet company to copy. I had to clear the path on my own
    I was the one of the first SEO practitioners locally and I had to learn all of it by myself
    I was one the first customers of Google adwords, so I had to learn along the way from my mistakes
    I was one of the earliest users of Paypal and email marketing. So I learned the ropes along the way
    And most of all, I didn't attend any classroom training. I had to this by learning by myself and being mentored by the likes of Corey Rudl

However, you do not have to go thru what I went thru. I will show you later.




My Million Dollar Baby
Fast forward today, the company currently has over 300,000 base readers and it is the top 3 executive book summary service in the world. Our clients include the FBI, the whole Hong Kong Civil Service and multinationals like Toyota, Pfizer and HSBC.

Last June, I was acquired by one of the largest content companies in the world.

The journey was long and hard but it was all worth it. However, during my journey I was always generous in helping a lot of people set up their own internet businesses. I see in them the same difficulties I encountered before.

So I decided that one of these days, when I have the time, I would be able to teach other people the formula for my success.

I know that a typical Pinoy entrepreneur dreams of having an online business:
