The OFW has to endure the following hardships and risks in order to fulfill the dreams of his/her family:
- Battling homesickness
- Facing illnesses alone
- Suffering cases of abuse by foreign employers
- Risk of weakening husband and wife relationship.
- Risk of children not being guided properly.
- Risk of creating gaps between the parents and children.
- Risk of not finding a local job or a profitable business after working abroad.
It is, therefore, important for an OFW, including his/her family, to realize that the income earned abroad is a product of a lot of sweat and tears. Every centavo should be spent and invested very wisely. Jobs abroad, as history has taught us time and again, are not permanent and are just temporary. Unexpected events such as accidents, wars, recessions, new laws, bankruptcies, etc. can send an OFW packing-up to the Philippines anytime.
